The KWL Junior Girls # 1 team is off to a flying start to the 2009-2010 season.

The girls have won their 1st 2 events to start the season and are currently 10-0.

In the 1st tourney of the season, the team won the Ottawa Shock event Dec. 5-6 going 4-0.

They beat the Ottawa Shock 56-52 and the Mississauga Sultans 53-49 in 2 close games.

This past weekend (Dec.11-13), the team went 6-0 to win the Windsor Valiant event.

Wins in pool play over Valiant (62-53) and a much improved Durham Eclipse (69-64) lead to a rematch with Windsor in the final.

The girls showed great poise to game end in the last 15 seconds (down 1) before Gemma Bullard's bullet pass to Jen Lennox at the basket saw Lennox finish with her left with 1.8 seconds remaining for a thrilling 61-60 win. Janine Deleon hit a transition 3 with 30 seconds left to put the girls in a postion to win.

The strength of this years team is its depth, balance, shot making ability and unselfishness.

Positive contributions have come from across the entire roster.

Guards Gemma Bullard (Guelph John F Ross and the British U18 women's team), Lisa Minutillo (Brantford North Park) and Krista Vanslingerland (Waterloo SJAM) have had excellent starts to the season with their scoring and on court savy.

6'3 Centre Jen Lennox (Kitchener Forest Heights) is back from NEDA.

Her interior presence (rebounding and shot blocking) and finishing around the basket are nice to have back.

The young grade 10 Twin Towers (6'1 Michelle Hudyn Kitchener Eastwood and 5'11 Lindsay Lessard Waterloo WCI) are welcomed additions to the team and have seamlessly fit in with their talent and work ethic

Hudyn had 8 tough points around the basket in the 61-60 win over the Valiant while Lessard brings rebounding grit and passing to the squad.

2008-2009 KWL Juvenile Provincial Gold Medal Grads Janine Deleon (Guelph Bishop Mac) and Megan Robinson (Kitchener Resurrection) have added pace and scoring punch to the team.

The point guard leadership of Rachael Urosevic (WCSSA MVP , Kitchener KCI) and Laura Burnett (D10 MVP, Kitchener Rockway) has been a steading influence.

The team welcomes 1st year member Claire Lockhart (Kitchener KCI), a tough, aggressive and eager to learn post player.

The team also looks forward to the healthy return of starting post Jordan Tomas (Waterloo SJAM) in mid February.

The Junior #1 girls got the season off to a great start! They were undefeated in a tournament in Ottawa Dec 5/6th.
