Phil  Garbutt

Coach Phil has extensive experience coaching minor sports for over 25 years.  In 2008-2009, he coached the Lightning Midget team.  Phil is a certified Level I basketball coach. 

He is also a certified hockey coach, having coached AA and AAA hockey teams from Minor Novice to Midget in Mississauga, Kitchener and Waterloo.  In recent years his teams have won numerous league and Alliance championships. His players have gone on to secure scholarships to Canadian and U.S. colleges and universities and have played in the OHL and other leagues.  Phil served on the Executive of the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association.  He has also coached various soccer teams for the Waterloo Minor Soccer Association for the last 7 years.

 
Phil was instrumental in the early planning and construction of Waterloo’s RIM Park athletic and recreation facility and the Grey Silo golf course and was recognized in 2004 by the City of Waterloo for his volunteer work in minor sports.
