Andrew has been coaching basketball for over 9 years with various organizations in the K-W area. He is now proud to be representing the Lightning organization and welcomes the great opportunites ahead.

Tamara Grant

Tamara is a graduate of the K-W Lightning program and is glad to be coaching in such a great organization. Tamara started coaching basketball in 1999 for the YBL program and has been involved in the program for many years.

Tamara has not only coached basketball, but has also coached rugby, lawn bowling and field lacrosse. She has been fortunate enough to come back as an Alumni coach of the 5 time OUA Championship WLU Women's Field Lacrosse Team. Tamara has also been involved in the Naismith Basketball Camp program for a number of years as a camper, counselor and now as a coach.

Tamara is also a member of the K-W Lightning Executive.

Dan Nelson
Dan Nelson graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Kinesiology degree and D'Youville College for his teachers education.  Dan is currently an occasional teacher with the Waterloo Regional District School Board and is actively and eagerly pursuing a teaching career as a high school teacher in Waterloo Region.

Coach Nelson is a Level II certified NCCP coach, and has been involved with basketball both as a player and a coach for many years.  This will be coach Nelson's 5th year coaching with the KW Lightning girls' basketball association.

In addition to coaching for KW Lightning, Coach Nelson has been coaching basketball, football and soccer at Waterloo Collegiate Institute.  Dan will be entering his 6th season with the senior boys as an assistant coach.  This past summer he coached at KW Community basketball camp and Naismith Sports Camp as well as ran the boys BDP program.  He is currently involved the Boys RTC program.

Courtney Hecktus

Courtney is currently attending the University of Waterloo in her third year, majoring in English. This is her third year coaching for Lightning, alongside Andrew and Tamara Grant.

Courtney started playing basketball at a young age in the YBL, and played every year through high school. After graduation, she began coaching as an assistant for the junior girls’ basketball team at Sir John A. MacDonald, and continued her interest with the Lightning club from then on. She received her NCCP1 coaching qualifications in 07/08.

During the summer Courtney attends Naismith Basketball camp, where for many years she attended as a camper, then a counselor, and is now entering her second year as a coach. In her spare time Courtney plays women’s intramural basketball. She is very grateful to be part of such a great team.
