Barrie Royals Mini-Tournament, Jan 15-16 2010

The girls opened the tournament with a couple of convincing wins and ran into a couple of hotter teams to close out the tournament. There are a lot of positives to take out of the weekend and the girls know that there is work to be done to compete with the higher ranked teams!

Game 1 - (1/15/2010): KW Lightning (55) Vs Orillia Lakers (17)

 

The girls started the tournament with a strong showing, putting a season high 55 points on the board. They also showed what they can do defensively as well keeping Orillia under 20 points. A very strong, all-round effort for the girls.

Game 2 - (1/15/2010): KW Lightning (30) Vs Barrie Royals #2 (16)

 

Playing a back to back, the girls did not show any fatigue in posting a second victory in the tournament. The girls were maybe not as sharp as per the first game but still were able to control the game and get the win.

Game 3 - (1/16/2010): KW Lightning (18) Vs Barrie Royals #1 (45)

 

The girls ran into a hot team in the Barrie Royals #1 team. Nothing seemed to drop for the girls and everything was dropping for Barrie. On a positive note, the girls were able to take the third quarter 12-6 but could not maintain the momentum into the fourth quarter.

Game 4 - (1/16/2010): KW Lightning (30) Vs Scarborough Blues (49)

 

In another back to back game, the girls started out well but by the end were worn down and fell to the Scarborough Blues. Again, balls did not seem to want to drop for the Lightning girls. Into the third quarter they did creep to within 10 with some strong pressing and key take aways but were not able to sustain the pressure.

KW Lightning Tournament, Jan 23-24 2010

They defended their gold medal going 4-1 during the tournament, winning by an average of 17.4 points. Next up is the Niagara Falls tournament … go get em !
 
The girls are presently on a 9-3 run after starting the season with 1 win in 6 games. During these last 12 games they have outscored their opponents by a total of 166 points which averages to 13.8 per game. A lot of good things going on and the hard work by all is paying off ! Well Done Lightning ! Keep it going !

Game 1 - (1/23/2010): KW Lightning (51) Vs Mississauga Monarchs (23)

 

The girls started the tournament with an excellent showing balancing a strong offensive and defensive front. The girls were in control of this game from start to finish. This was a great effort to start the defense of their home tournament title.

Game 2 - (1/23/2010): KW Lightning (36) Vs Port Colborne Hornets (50)

 

Girls ran into some foul trouble early in this game and Port Colborne took advantage by hitting their free throws. After falling behind early, the girls regrouped in the second half, coming within 7 points at one point. In the end the girls lost a tough one but a lot of positives came from the second half of the game. It was clear the girls would be ready for a re-match (a little foreshadowing ).

Game 3 - (1/23/2010): KW Lightning (37) Vs St. Clair Mini Colts (11)

 

Finishing up the round robin, the girls once again showed a great two-way game and had a convincing win.

Game 4 (Semi – Finals) - (1/24/2010): KW Lightning (52) Vs Mississauga Monarchs (21)

 

In a rematch from the first game of the tournament, the girls continued to show a very consistent game on both sides of the ball. There was a strong contribution from all to move into the gold medal game so that they could defend their title.

Game 5 (Gold Medal Game) - (1/24/2010): KW Lightning (50) Vs Port Colborne Hornets (34)

 

After a disappointing loss in the round robin, the girls were ready and came out firing going on a 10-2 run early in the game. The girls played very well on both sides of the ball and their effort was rewarded on the score sheet. After running up a 12 point lead the girls were tested when Port Colborne hit 2 three pointers within 10 seconds to cut the lead in half. Not phased, the girls kept their composure and built the lead once again finishing with a convincing 16 point lead
