Al Haehn
Al Haehn is coaching this year’s Midget team but has been coaching for KW Lightning since 1993 when he, Roy Dahl and Brian Henry created KW Lightning. Al has coached all ages of girls teams for KW Lightning and can be proud of how far his players have gone.
Al has been coaching girls and boys basketball at Kitchener Collegiate Institute (KCI) for over 30 years – often coaching back to back basketball seasons. His dedication to building a basketball program at KCI paid off as he won 4 WCSSAA and CWOSSA championships and had 5 OFSAA appearances.
Al coached at Naismith basketball camp for over 20 years and was also a member of the Court Heinbuch Committee.
In 2006, Al was the recipient of the OFSAA Leadership in Sport Award. This award is presented annually at OFSAA to the teacher/coach who has demonstrated leadership, sportsmanship and dedication to his school, his team and his athletes.
In addition to coaching, Al is a member of the KW Lightning Executive.
Karen Bremner
This is Karen’s sixth year with the Lightning organization. She spent four years working her way through the Midget and Juvenile programs as a player and recently came back to work with the Midget girls as a coach.
Karen played at the University of Western Ontario until an injury forced her to retire. This led her to get her Level I and II NCCP coaching certification as well as her Red Cross Sport First Aid and CPR "C"/AED certification.
In addition to the Lightning, Karen works with the Bishop Macdonell Celtics in Guelph during the high school season. As a player Karen always had passion and dedication to the game, she plans to continue coach for many years to come.
