Lightning grad and Vermont junior guard May Kotsopoulos has been named the America East Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 29. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday (Dec. 30).

Kotsopoulos, who earned the weekly honor for the second time this season, scored a game-high 25 points, matching her season-high and one shy of her career-high, in Vermont’s 85-76 loss at No. 18/20 Florida in the first round of the State Farm Classic in Gainesville, Fla. on Monday. Kotsopoulos went 10-for-14 from the floor, and didn’t attempt a three-pointer, and made 5-of-6 at the foul line.

Kotsopoulos enters UVM’s second round game versus Towson on Tuesday (Dec. 30, 5 p.m.) 100 points shy of the 1,000-point milestone. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. She ranks fifth in America East in scoring and continues to lead the conference in steals (2.55 pg).

Kotsopoulos has also become the second Catamount to reach 1,000 career points this year
